For a brief I would quite like to brand a clothing range, then I can take photographs/make a website/ retail graphics. All the kind of things I want to do in the future. 

This year I am going to use a lot of my photography within my work, and I aim to create designs for publications such as this above through using photographs and type working together.

In this next year I want to brand a company and then create a range of products branded with the logo such as the corporate identity above. 

I really LOVE the work at because studio! I have been following them on twitter alos and they seem to keep in touch alot with Effektive which is another company which I really like! 

I would love to have a placement here, however I have had no reply from them, which is unfortunate. But I am always hopeful of the future so lets hope.. 

Whilst I want to brand and promote a company through design, within branding, I would like to do a lot of manipulation of type. And create a logo through a sophisticated edit of type, that is suitable/relevant to the company. 

This next year I want to create as many publications as I can and really get into layout, as in many projects I have wanted to create a properly bound book, however have not left myself enough time.

BRANDING

This year I want to create a brand and corporate identity for a company and create a range of products relating to the company. Of which I found this brief on D&AD

PACKAGING

This brief will allow me to create a range of packaging designs for retail, of which I feel is missing from my portfolio that I would like to be in there. 

MOVING IMAGE

Although this asks for a 'film' I would like to use this brief and create an animation. As this will allow me to strengthen my knowledge in After Effects of which I think are missing.

Experiment with type and photographs//

I would love to come out of a brief with a collection of work like this. I love the type, photography and layout all combined and collected together.

OPEN BRIEFS

I like the ISTD briefs as they are both open briefs, which I feel allow me to be more creative and think a little outside of the box, come up with something new, yet give me enough information to keep me focussed; which I prefer. 

BRANDING

This will allow me to create a brand, advertise and also create a range of products. So this brief would be / could be quite a big brief if taken far enough.

PHOTOGRAPHY & TYPE

This may possibly be my favourite brief. I want to use this one to incorporate my photography and create type from the environment around me. I think I will really enjoy this one along with creating the style of work I believe is my style and also the kind of work I want to create in the future. 

10 Briefs..

After thinking about the type of designer I want to be in the future, I have come to the conclusion that these are the subject/medias I want to focus on in my third year:

- branding
- publications
- moving image
- web design

Over this last year in uni I want to carry on experimenting within design, therefore learning as much as I can. I also want to focus on learning all the programs to then be confident walking into a job. A job is also what I will be looking into throughout the year along with more placements, and I would love to go back to M.

I would also like to enter competition and live briefs through the year, in aid of trying to get myself known.

Getting myself out there..

To promote myself, and make myself known I have set up my photography business in a nightclub in Leeds.. Doing this will send people to my website for their pictures of which they can then look into my graphics and what else I do.

Also hopefully get some work from people visiting the club/ or bussiness people within leeds seeing my work.

After playing around with the font I liked I have come up with this logo..

I am really happy with this! 

I then need a little line underneath with the full name, and also try out colours as I don't like the grey and black combination

Out of all the colours on the page, I think the strongest in my opinion is the deep red!

I really like the deep red, with the deep red I think I will use a grey  also.

On the other hand I do like the white type on images like the sky.. This would look quite good on top of my photographs and for coloured backgrounds.

I would like to say a massive thank you to the graphics team at M and everyone that made my placement possible. Also the invitation for next year! Along with the positive feedback of:

 "if you do want to come back again next year we do sometimes recruit graduates for our big briefs, and next year we do have a brief for the olympics" 

In third year I would like to experiment a lot with publications and layout design, also taking into account what we have learnt from graham and making the document readable, yet using design to make the reader read it in maybe a different direction or movement around the page.

Self Initiated Brief:

Firstly for the logo. 

I want something simplistic and elegant and pure type.

I quite like the font at the top however I want it to say: 'kimberley jayne photography' which in that design would be too big.

 KJP in my opinion will make a better logo as kimberley jayne photography is far too long to put on the top of headed paper and such things.

This year I want to create packaging for food, as I think this is a huge market and very few stand out for having a 'good' packaging design. 

Third week of placement..

I had such a good week! I was asked to design and make the template for a website for a client, I was also asked to do a photography shoot with the company to capture them off guard for pictures for the new website.

Overall this 3 week placement was amazing! I got on with everyone and they all made the effort and found work of which I could do and I was involved in a lot of good briefs. They have also offered me another placement at the end of my third year and said there may be a job for me at the end of my degree! Which is AMAZING!!

In third year I would like to create a range of packaging for food. It could be a new company or even re-branding an already existing product that I could do my own interpretation of.

Another company of which I would LOVE a work placement at is B&W studio, whom have done a lot of work for republic and the brands within it.

 I really love this packaging for seven, simple but I think you would be excited to get something like this through the post, therefore it works.
